Chapter 2: How to Use JDownloader

What is JDownloader

Download Manager programs such as Gigaget, Free Download Manager (FDM), Download Accelerator and JDownloader are designed to work with the web browser for ease of downloading of files from the internet. However, due to copyright protected contents are being downloaded from Rapidshare, Rapidshare have found a way to circumvent or block these download managers from working with the Rapidshare downloads. However, JDownloder is still able to work smoothly and is not affected. Based on Java platform, the JDownloader program can be downloaded from http://jdownloader.org/download/index . JDownloader is also easier to use and functions very well with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.

Setting Up JDownloader

The JDownloader should be easily installed on your PC and works almost immediately without much settings. If you are a Rapidshare Premium account user, the username and password can be saved under settings tab, under Plugins and Add-ons. Click on Add Account and key-in the username and password.

After that, your premium account details will be saved in the program and your downloads will be smooth.

If your internet connection is using proxy server (normally in an office environment), you will need to key-in the proxy settings under Internet & Network settings as shown below. Use the default settings if you are not using Proxy server.

How to Use JDownloader

To start using JDownloader, make sure the program is already started and loaded in the background. You may close the program but the program is still running in the background as indicated under the taskbar.

If the program is running, you can start downloading right away. In the forum page such as the hd-bb.org or forumw.ca, the links to files are normally put under code as shown below. You need to select or highlight all the links, press right click on your mouse and click on copy.

Once copied, the links will automatically captured by JDownloader under Linkgrabber. Under Linkgrabber, JDownloader will check with Rapidshare whether the files are available for download or not. If they are available, the status will be online.

To begin downloading the files, click on Continue with all. The links will move to the Download tab and files will be automatically downloaded.

The files will start to download until all files are downloaded. The downloads are resumable if they are interupted or network is temporarily disconnected.

You can also set the number of downloads and the maximum connections required as shown below. However, more downloads at the same time doesn't necessarily speed up your downloads as the network speed is spread to all your individual download.

The system will also extract the files automatically upon completion of downloads. As such, you may need to put in the password for Winrar if they are password protected. Passwords can be saved under Modules and under Unrar/Extract.
